Feng Deng
Founding Managing Director, Northern Light Venture Capital
Feng co-founded Northern Light Venture Capital in 2005, a China focused
fund. He has more than 15 years of technical and managerial experience
in the computer, communication and data networking industries. In 1997,
Feng co-founded NetScreen Technologies, and served as the Vice President
of Engineering, Chief Strategy Officer and Board member. NetScreen went
public on NASDAQ in 2001 and was acquired by Juniper Networks in 2004
for $4 billion. From 2004 to 2005, Feng served as VP of Corp. Strategy
at Juniper Networks. Feng was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award
in 2002 and the Innovator of the Year award in 2003. Prior to founding
NetScreen, Feng worked at Intel Corp. Feng holds a MS degree in computer
engineering from the University of Southern California, a MS degree in
electronic engineering from Tsinghua University, and a MBA from the Wharton
Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He also holds five U.S. patents
in computer system architecture and IC design. Feng serves as the Chairman
of the Tsinghua Executive Entrepreneur Club (TEEC), serves on the Board
of Directors of Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association (HYSTA), and
is a board member of the Tsinghua University Foundation.
Paul R. Gray
During his 28-year tenure with the University of California at Berkeley,
Dr. Gray has held numerous administrative posts, including Executive Vice
Chancellor and Provost, Director of the Electronics Research Laboratory,
Vice Chairman of the EECS Department for Computer Resources, Dean of the
College of Engineering and Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering
and Computer Sciences. Dr. Gray holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in
Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Reed Hundt
Reed E. Hundt served four years as Chairman of the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC), from 1993 to 1997. Prior to his position as Chairman
of the FCC, Mr. Hundt was a partner in the Washington, DC office of Latham & Watkins,
a national and international law firm. Reed Hundt is a part-time
advisor to McKinsey & Company, Co-Chairman of The Forum on Communications
and Society at The Aspen Institute, and serves on the boards of numerous
public and private companies. He is a special advisor to Blackstone
Group, a New York-based private equity firm, is a member of the advisory
committee at the Yale School of Management, and has authored You Say
You Want A Revolution: A Story of Information Age Politics (Yale
University Press, 2000) and In China's Shadow: The Crisis of American
Entrepreneurship (Yale University Press, 2006). Reed Hundt
is a magna cum laude graduate of Yale College, and is also a
graduate of Yale Law School where he was a member of the executive board
of the Yale Law Journal.
Scott Sandell
General Partner, New Enterprise Associates
Scott focuses on investments in information technology and alternative
energy, and is responsible for NEA’s activities in China. Present
board memberships include Agami Systems, Bloom Energy, Cassatt, Data Domain
(NASDAQ: DDUP), Dexterra, DreamFactory, HelioVolt, SolFocus, Spreadtrum
Communications (NASDAQ: SPRD), SugarCRM, Tableau Software, Telegent and
Teneros. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the board of the Software Development
Forum. He has sponsored investments in 3ware (acquired by Applied Micro
Circuits Corporation), Amplitude Software (acquired by Critical Path),
Fineground Networks (acquired by Cisco), Neoteris (acquired by Juniper
Networks, (NASDAQ: JNPR), NetIQ (NASDAQ: NTIQ), Salesforce.com (NYSE:
CRM) and WebEx (NASDAQ: WEBX). Scott started his career at the Boston
Consulting Group and later joined C-ATS Software as the company's first
salesman. He founded and ran the European Subsidiary before attending
Stanford Business School. During and after business school, Scott was
a Product Manager at Microsoft, where he worked on Windows 95. In addition
to an MBA from Stanford, Scott holds an AB in Engineering Sciences from
Dartmouth College.
Brooke Seawell
Venture Partner, New Enterprise Associates
With seven IPOs in his career as an officer and a director, Seawell brings
more than 25 years of experience in technology finance and operations to
Telegent's board. He has served as Executive Vice President at NetDynamics,
an application server software company acquired by Sun Microsystems in 1998;
as Senior Vice President - finance and operations & CFO at Synopsys, an
electronic design automation software company which he took public in 1992;
and as Vice President - finance and production & CFO of Weitek, a fabless
semiconductor company which he took public in 1988. Recognized by Upside
Magazine as one of the top 15 high-tech CFOs in 1990, Seawell has
subsequently served as Venture Partner at Technology Crossover Ventures and
is currently a Venture Partner at NEA. Seawell sits on the boards of three
public companies - NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA), Informatica (Nasdaq: INFA), Glu
Mobile (Nasdaq: GLUU) - and several private companies. Brooke received his
MBA and BA from Stanford University.
Samuel Sheng
Chief Technical Officer, Co-Founder, Telegent Systems
Dr. Samuel Sheng co-founded Telegent Systems in 2004. A world-renowned
expert in CMOS RF and DSP development, Dr. Sheng has extensive experience
in architecting and designing leading-edge CMOS RF and DSP chips for silicon
tuners, ADSL transceivers, magnetic recording and DVD RF/servo technologies.
He has a proven track record of sampling first silicon for all the chips
developed under his leadership. Prior to co-founding Telegent Systems,
Dr. Sheng was at LSI Logic and responsible for architecting and implementing
a series of silicon RF tuners for video-band applications, targeted for
cable modems, analog/digital video over cable, and voice over IP as well
as highly integrated DVD front-end technologies. Before LSI Logic, Dr.
Sheng co-led the ADSL front-end (AFE) development effort at Datapath Systems,
Inc.
Dr. Sheng was awarded Inventor of the Year at LSI Logic in 2002 and 2003 and was named the 2002 Distinguished Engineer at LSI Logic. He has authored numerous papers and publications on various topics such as low-power CMOS RF wireless systems and low-power CMOS digital design. He has been awarded seven patents in the areas of RF tuner and DSL modem design. Dr. Sheng received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering, and the BA degree in applied mathematics, all from the University of California, Berkeley.
Lip-Bu Tan
Chairman, Walden International
Lip-Bu Tan is Chairman and founder of Walden International and has been
active in the venture capital industry for the past two decades. Additionally,
he introduced and pioneered the U.S. venture capital concept in Asia and
contributed towards the promotion of early-stage technology investing
in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to WI, he was Vice President at Chappell & Co.
and held management positions at EDS Nuclear and ECHO Energy. Lip-Bu
is a board member of numerous public and private companies, including Cadence
Design, Flextronics, SMIC, Sina, and Mindtree Consulting; a board member of the
National Venture Capital Association (NVCA); a member of the VC
Advisory Board of Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA); a member of the
Visiting Committee for the Department of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; a
trustee of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; and a member
of the Committee of 100. He also served as a member of the Board of
Trustees of the University of San Francisco for 9 years. Lip-Bu holds a
BS in Physics from Nanyang University in Singapore, an MS in
Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an
MBA from the University of San Francisco.
Weijie Yun
Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder, Telegent Systems
Dr. Weijie Yun co-founded Telegent Systems in 2004, bringing years
of broad business experience with a solid engineering background. Prior
to co-founding Telegent Systems, Dr. Yun was responsible for marketing
and product management at Berkana Wireless, Inc., which successfully introduced
the first single-chip RF CMOS transceiver for GSM/GPRS cellular applications.
Dr. Yun is a serial entrepreneur. As the founding President and CEO of
AIP Networks, he led the development of switching subsystems for optical
networks. His broad business experience encompasses stints at BEI Technologies
and SiTek, Inc. where he served as founding Director and was responsible
for business strategy and product development.
Dr. Yun received his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and obtained his BS degree in Physics and Electronics from Zhengzhou University in China.
Giuseppe Zocco
Partner, Index Ventures
Giuseppe Zocco co-founded Index Ventures in 1996 and is a Partner. His
areas of investment focus currently include components, communication
and wireless infrastructure and devices. He serves as a Director of several
public and private companies including Conexant (NASDAQ: CNXT), Telegent
Systems, Artimi, VirtualLogix and Certess. Previously, Giuseppe spent
five years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company in several European
offices. During his career at McKinsey, Giuseppe advised several major
corporations on a number of strategic and organizational matters including
European entry strategies, strategic positioning, marketing and new product
introductions. Giuseppe holds a BA in Business Administration from Bocconi
University in Milan, an IEP from London Business School and an MBA from
the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
